Every year our K5 students visit the Foster Fire Station. The fire station is a very important place in our community. We learned about many safety tips. Students watched as the fire fighter put on all his gear. He can look intimidating with his mask and air tank on, so the students were given a chance to shake his hand or hug him. This is to remind them that he is there to help us in emergencies, and not to hide or be afraid of the firefighters. The students then walked through the fire station and were quite surprised to see a kitchen! An interesting fact that the students probably remember is that Firefighters like to eat! We then made our way outside to the fire trucks. Each student was lifted up into the fire truck! What a special time! I can't forget Sparky, the fire safety dog, he came out for one last hug and photos. Each student went home with a plastic firefighter hat and an activity booklet.
