Today was an observation time for parents to see what your child does in school. In the morning the students come in and turn in their folders. They can check the job schedule to see what their job is for the day.
We always start with singing and praising the Lord. We have a song leader that chooses two songs. After that someone is designated as the prayer person for the day. That student then leads us in a beautiful prayer.
We go over the schedule for the day.

For Reading, we do something called "Reader's Workshop." The teacher teaches a mini lesson and reads with the class, then students go back to their tables to do "Independent Reading." During this time, I am able to conference with students individually and listen to them read. As students are reading at the tables, I am also able to meet with a reading group. This is called "Guided Reading." We read together a new story and figure out the words together. Then I have that group read the book on their own. After that we do "Literacy Centers." As students are playing in their centers together, they are learning how to cooperate in groups while learning through the art of play (rhyming games/sight word/letter/alphabet games). During this time, this frees me to work with students individually on their personal reading needs. I love the workshop style of teaching because it incorporates whole group learning and small group learning, plus meeting the needs of individuals at their own level.
I hope this helped give you an idea of what your child does in school. We enjoyed having you visit! :)
