I don't want to overwhelm the students with too much. So here is my scaffolding homework plan for the beginning of the year.
Homework Schedule:
First week: No homework...just enjoy coming to school!
2nd week: 1 worksheet and Memory Verse
3rd week: 1 worksheet, Memory Verse, and Practice Notebook (recite letter names & sounds)
Sometime in September: Add on Reading for 10 minutes and signing the Reading Log.
Students will eventually borrow a little book from the class to take home and read. It will also come with a reading log that parents will need to help their child fill out. Either the parent or child can fill it out. I will wait a couple of weeks to start that routine. I'm trying to build responsibility in the classroom, and if they show that they can take care of our classroom things and turn in homework on time, I will begin letting them borrow books from our classroom. :) For now, if you would like to read with your child, I would still encourage you to do so daily! There are so many benefits to reading aloud with children. It's wonderful for building language skills, comprehension, vocabulary, and reading fluency. Go for it!
