Monday is an American holiday. It is Labor Day. So there will be no school on Monday. Please bring your library book back to school on Tuesday.
This week the students have been learning about self control. Today we practiced self control with a bottle of bubbles. I blew the bubbles and the students were very excited to pop them all! They couldn't believe I was blowing bubbles in the classroom. Then I talked about having self control and what it looks like to display self control. I had them fold their hands and see if they could practice self control by NOT popping any bubbles while I blew bubbles in front of them. It was definitely a temptation for Kindergarteners! I have to say, they did EXCELLENT! I could see on their faces that they really wanted to pop them, but they practiced self control, and some students even moved out of the way so they wouldn't pop any bubbles. For the rest of the day they practiced self control. Of course some students forgot during the day, but we have all year to practice!
We have also been learning letter names and sounds, and integrated some art along with it. This past week we learned: a, m, s, t, i. With just these few letters, students can already start practicing putting together the sounds to make words such as Sam, mat, sat, and sit.
We also learned two sight words: the & of. We played hide and go seek with the words and the students had to look around the room for these words and take it home to help them remember.
Every week for first quarter, we will be continuing practicing letter sounds, and more sight words. We will use these letter sounds to create, read, and write new words. Starting next week students will have a "Practice Drill" in their Home-School Notebook to practice. Every week I will glue a new practice drill. Sometimes 2 per week.
Some reminders:
Here are some photos of the students in the Computer Lab. Have a great weekend!
